She was everywhere throughout the '90s and the '00s, but lay low for years until the widespread acclaim of her 2018 album Caution.
But even if she wasn't always in the limelight, Mariah's 1994 Christmas single became a timeless hit, reports Belfast Live.
According to The Daily Mail, which compiled a list of the top Christmas song earners in 2015, Mariah Carey makes as much as £376,000 per year in royalties in the UK alone.
Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry
Jona Lewie has previously said he's never had to have a proper job since his 1980 hit 'Stop The Cavalry' landed him success.
In an interview about the Christmas/anti-war song, he revealed that he did "everything on the track", including lyrics, melody and backing, which means that he earns 100% of the royalties.
It's estimated that he earns £120,000 each year from the song.
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
It's arguably the greatest Christmas song of all time, and became an instant classic when it was released back in 1987.
The timeless duet by Kirsty MacColl and Shane MacGowan, 'Fairytale of New York' has remained an iconic song throughout the years and recently overtook 'Last Christmas' to become the most played Christmas song of the 21st Century.
It's estimated that the track earns The Pogues £400,000 per year in royalties (although Shane MacGowan has been tight-lipped when asked in interviews about how much the song earns him).
Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody
By far and away the biggest earners in terms of royalties, Slade are estimated to take home as much as half a million pounds each year for their 1973 hit single 'Merry Xmas Everybody'.
However, this may even be on the conservative side of guessing, with Channel 5's Eamonn & Ruth show speculating in 2016 that the song could make up to £1 million a year.
According to the Daily Mail, here are the top 10 Christmas songs in terms of royalties:
